Started with Hamnet, now onto her other novels. Love her descriptive writing, the empathy for quirky, flawed, vulnerable, humorous characters, & for likewise specific places. Hard to put her books down, miss them when I'm done.

Quiet domestic drama spiced with an unrelenting heat wave, family feud and secrets. Good writing and good reading. A good choice for a book discussion.

This is like an Irish version of an Anne Tyler book: funny, readable, likeable and well-written. A very enjoyable read.

Another enjoyable read by Maggie O'Farrell. Set within a dysfunctional Irish family who must come together after the disappearance of their husband/father.

If you enjoy Irish families bickering,(I don't), this is the book for you. Some sex and bad languaage. I would rate it M for mature.

Good beginning, slow middle, very good revelation. Familiar family issues in good setting spiced with some mystery. Enjoyable read.

Set during the UK drought of 1976, a father's disappearance brings together his estranged children. Although there is a mystery, which is resolved in Connemara, the novel is about family relationships. The mother is particularly well…

A family comes together in the face of a crisis despite their own personal turmoils. Funny and sweet. Abrupt ending but an enjoyable read.

I love Maggie O'Farrell's work and this was no exception. A bit different to her other works in that it has a somewhat unresolved ending compared to her other novels. This novel is more character-driven than plot driven, so perhaps that…

Reminded me a bit of Mark Haddon's style of writing. About a quirky English/Irish family and how they interact when their retired father disappears. I liked the characters and O'Farrell's writing.

I love Maggie O'Farrell and I read this book keenly - I always wanted to pick it up again and there was never that feeling of "I'd better get on with this". But...I don't think it's quite up to the standard of her other works. It's still…
