Written in 1936 it is charming but contains unappealing caricatures of women as wives and uxorious husbands. I doubt this book would appeal to anyone under 40. The Edwardian British manners and classism of the time feels claustrophobic to…

Barbara Buncle, a spinster facing hard times in 1930’s England, writes a novel based on her neighbors. Despite the artistry of the book, they don’t appreciate having their foibles so accurately portrayed.

This was a lovely find! Not only is it a sweet and funny portrait of an English village in the 1930s, it's also a refreshing change of pace from the high-action, high-intensity types of novels that are so common today. An understated…

Oh, my goodness! What a delightful read! Her description of the Tea meeting put me in mind of the council meetings in the Vicar of Dibley. I laughed until I cried.

A humorous and light read set in the early 1900’s England. Miss Buncle has discovered she needs money, so she writes a book under a false name that caricatures the people of her village perfectly. Frantic to discover who the mystery author…

Charming in an oh-so-British way. I enjoyed it immensely. As a matter of fact, the atmosphere reminded me of some of Agatha Christie's books, but without the murder. A light, wholesome, and fun read.

Nice little story but not good enough to tempt me to read the next one - can anyone really be as naive as Miss Buncle? It was charming and sweet.

Charming British novel with a touch of snark to keep it fun :) Miss Buncle inadvertently writes a best-seller based on her neighbours, and finds love in the process.

Put up your feet and settle back for several hours of pure pleasure with this light-hearted British fiction. Not a mystery, and thus missing the usual formulas, this tale of village life, and what happens when the masks come off, is…

I liked it. Somehow it was satisfying. I like that it was about goodness winning out. Light reading but enjoyable.

Delightful! I've looked for DE Stevenson books in many used book stores and they are not easy to find. I hope the library can find the rest of her books as I would love to read them all.

A really delightful book, a pleasure to read, with some hilarious moments—be ready for many chuckles, so be sure you are alone when you read it! Incredibly, there is no sex, and no foul language; modern writers should look for some…

"Miss Buncle's Book" is indeed a novel book. It is hard to believe that it was first written in 1936. It is just as interesting today. The writer D.E Stevenson has woven an intriguing plot of a book within a book within a book and yet…

This is a delightful comedy written in the 1930s. Miss Buncle is a "quiet mouse" who observes more than her neighbours think, and turns what she observes into a book that turns the village upside down. There is a second book that follows…
