Finally watched the movie and thought it was adorable so decided to check out the book. It was sweet and had many moments of making me laugh out loud. Worth the read and the audio is excellent. I am starting the second one today!

I loved this book! I somehow saw the movie first and fell in love with the story. (If you haven’t watched the movie yet you should!) Book Miss Erstwhile was someone who seemed so real, rather than just an actress playing a part in a…

Characters: 8/10 Plot: 8/10 Writing: 9/10 Great for the Austen-lover (and the movie is fun too!).

A light and funny read, much better than the movie. The movie was very odd and left me extremely weirded out. But that was not the case with this novel. It was a nice quick read that I read in one afternoon and still, I enjoyed it. I would…

This was better than expected. I was pleasantly surprised because the movie version of this book was SO bad...There are no words to express how bad.

I was intrigued by the premise and I have a friend who loves Jane Austen. I wanted to be able to discuss Jane Austen's influence in popular culture so I read this. I don't usually read romance novels, but I was intrigued enough to give…

The Austen book to end all Austen books! If you’ve ever watched obsessively that 1995 BBC series with Colin Firth in the wet shirt, then you know what I’m talking about, ladies. Austen is supposed to epitomize romance for a very select…

Three weeks in Austenland, a role-playing vacation destination is just what Jane needs, she thinks, to rid herself of the male ideal (like Mr. Darcy in P&P). Maybe that's what's been keeping her from finding her "one". Once there though,…

I really wanted to like this book more! Shannon Hale writes wonderful, strong female characters for girls (see The Princess Academy or The Princess in Black). This needed more editing perhaps...and a stronger story overall.

it is a great novel I have read it so many times I lost count, I picked it of the shelf to read in English periods silent reading I really did not have any intention of actually reading but I just could not help it and then I watched the…

This novel is great to take on vacation as it is not overly taxing on the reader nor does it demand your full attention. I enjoyed the idea of a vacation resort based on Jane Austen's fictional world, and was pleasantly surprised by the…

It's not Nobel Prize material, but it's a fun beach read, and miles above most of the abysmal Austen fanfic out there.

As a longtime Janeite, the premise of this novel charmed me and the delivery is decent. The narrative is a bit rough in places but Jane is a sympathetic heroine dealing with a bad romantic past in any Austen fangirl's dream resort. The…

Having never read a Shannon Hale novel, I was expecting Austenland to be a fun romp. And it was that! But it was also an arrow that hit close to home. Through the multiple layers of humor and wit (and the wonderful Austen novel parallels,…

I did not finish this book. My main criticism is that the main character was ASHAMED of enjoying the fictitious wonder that is Mr. Darcy?! Why! While attempting to be lighthearted this story was SILLY, and had more potential of being…

I strongly echo LaimaA's comment. I did finish this book but felt silly & shallow the whole time I was reading it, and a little embarrassed that I finished it. Not everything has to be "War and Peace" (or "Pride and Prejudice"), but…

First off: why is this listed as "teen" fiction? The character is in her mid-thirties!! It doesn't really make sense to me. Well, anyhoo it was still a pretty good book and I will check out the sequel and other books by the author. I…

I accidentally read the sequel (Midnight in Austenland) first and I enjoyed that book much more than this one. Austenland is still a cute read but the characters lack the depth of those in the sequel.

I typically enjoy some depth of relationships in Shannon Hale's YA books. Of course, it would be hard to be in-depth when you are writing a novel where everyone is an actor (practically), but this novel felt much more fluffy and…

I've enjoyed other books by Shannon Hale, and I like both Jane Austen and historical reenactments, so I expected to enjoy this... Not so much. I loathed the heroine and could not understand her at all. Why be ashamed of enjoying Pride &…
