It has been more than sixty years since Elaine Greenstein's twin sister, Barbara, ran away, cutting off contact with her family forever. Elaine has made peace with that loss. But while sifting through old papers as she prepares to move to a retirement community, she is stunned to find a possible hint to Barbara's whereabouts all these years later. And it pushes her to confront the fierce love and bitter rivalry of their youth during the 1920s and '30s, in the Los Angeles Jewish neighbourhood of Boyle Heights.--From book jacket.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. The characters were very believable and I found myself mulling over their lives during the day. I learned a lot about Jewish customs and what they had to go thru in the early 20th century. I would highly recommend this book if you enjoy history and a little mystery!

Beatiful written story and very convincing. She writes like you are sitting across from her and she's telling the story to you alone. I appreciate more now what it must have been like to grow up Jewish in America during WW II.
