Fact-based story about the 40 passengers and crew aboard San Francisco bound flight United 93, who sat down as strangers and found the courage to stand up as one. This hijacked flight was the fourth terrorist attack plane on September 11, 2001. As a result of a delay on takeoff, the passengers on the flight, are behind the carefully scheduled planned attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Once hijacked, the passengers and crew are able to discern that this is no mere hijacking. While the real events that caused the ultimate crash of the plane can never be known, the events depicted would appear to be as might be expected. The scariest part of the film is the unpreparedness of the FAA and the military in dealing with the situation.

Good film about 9/11. So heartbreaking to watch.

I too initially refused to ever watch this based on my assumption that it exploited that heinous event. I have now obviously succumbed, recently picking it out of my local library's shelves. It was difficult to watch, and more importantly, extremely inspirational. Hollywood may have used "poetic license" or not, but the facts remain that the passengers on that doomed flight flat out refused to go down without a fight. And God bless them for that. May they rest in peace. FIVE STARS.

Difficult to give such a good rating to a film about such a tragic true event. To those who say " how do they know what happened" one only needs to watch the film and see the number of people who called their loved ones, explained to them what was going on, and I am sure some of the mayhem was heard as well. It was " imagined" and then pieced together with as much information as they could get. Using some of the original individuals that actually LIVED through this makes it even more believable. Top notch filmwork, acting, directing.
The extras pull at your heartstrings and you need to watch these as well.

During the pathetic and frequently misinforming American newsy coverage of the missing Malaysian Airlines Flight MH370, when various comm experts stated that cell phones would not work above a certain altitude, I thought back again and again to some mystifying aspects of this film. I cannot tell just how // fact based \\ this event actually was, but I am pretty certain that Lynn Spencer's book, Touching History, the penultimate book on 9/11, is definitely fact-based, as she ONLY reports the facts.

"Fact-based story..." ????
"While the real events that caused the ultimate crash of the plane can never be known,..." ????? Perhaps they should ask the fighter pilot that shot it down.

I refused to see this film in the theatres thinking it to be a grotesque exploitation of other people's misery. I rented it on the advice of a fellow cinephile and quickly realized how wrong I had been. If anything this film is a respectful memorial to those who lost their lives on 9/11....one only has to see the family interviews in the "extras" section to realize this. Technically and artistically it is a tremendous achievement.....with a frantic verite style and believable dialogue delivered by some amazing actors. One gets the claustrophobic feeling that they are actually silent witnesses on the plane itself rather than passive observers. There is no political grandstanding, no patriotic propaganda.......just a heartbreaking story of some ordinary people in an extraordinary situation.

A truly outstanding film. Balanced and not sensationalized telling of this horrific story. Something that really struck me towards the end of the film was the cutting back and forth between the terrorists and the passengers all praying to "god". Interesting.

Honor Elizabeth Wainio: Hi, Mom, it's me. I'm on the plane that's been hijacked. I'm just calling to tell you that I love you, and goodbye. This really kind woman handed me the phone and she said to call you.
