Set in Ireland, this crime drama follows the actions of a serial killer and the detective charged with his capture. Certainly not for the faint of heart. This show is dark and offers little respite throughout. It has the same melancholy feeling as other British crime dramas such as Broadchurch and Happy Valley.

Perhaps the most troubling part of the show is the lead actor, shown to be capable of horrible acts, is extremely charismatic. At times we may find ourselves unwillingly rooting for the villain to elude capture. If you can handle that and the subject matter at large, give this one a try. Just make sure you queue up 'The Office' afterwards to cleanse your viewing palette.

Really well done, bit disappointed with the ending

Terrific series. Smart, intelligent characters and dialogue; suspense-filled plot (even though the viewer knows the identify of the murderer); one of the better TV police/serial killer series. Typical British tone (which is preferable to the often-soapy, melodramatic American versions). Not for the faint of heart. 5 out of 5 stars.

A ho-hum detective movie, but then again I'm not a big fan of Gillian Anderson. I suppose I'll force myself to sit through the 2nd series to see how it ends (but not too soon).

Gillian Anderson is great in this series - the serial killer is this completely self0satisfied HATEFUL character which truly awakened a total fury on my part for his commitment to playing God and deciding on life or death for several women.
Very suspenseful with all the politics and the corruption of Ireland in the background and surrounding the main plot.

Gillian Anderson is wonderful in a well written and well acted, strong role. She's great to watch. This is the first of three series. The first series ends and leaves you wanting more. Well worth watching if you like British/Irish crime dramas.

Looking for a replacement after the critically acclaimed NBC show "Hannibal" got the axe? Look no further! "The Fall" is the closest that television has come to capturing the taut alchemy of "Hannibal": part police chase, part psychological portrait of the hunted and the hunter. If only its starred Mads Mikkelsen I would be so so happy.

The Fall has three seasons. In Season 1 a British investigator is brought in to Belfast to solve the murder of a prominent man's daughter. She discovers a serial killer is at large. Much of season 1 is watching him stake out his victims, follow them, and kill them, including his little rituals, while Stella (the investigator) tries to get him declared a serial killer which brings in more help to catch him. Season 2 is the downfall of Peter Paul Spector as Stella and her team closes in and captures him. Season 3 (now airing) shows the arduous path to trial after Spector claims amnesia for the time period of the murders. Only he left clues behind and they discover 9 more dead women. I liked all three seasons.

Kind of forgettable.

Gillian Anderson isn't just Scully--what a talented actress! This series was creepy, well-scripted, and hard to stop watching. Highly recommend if you like Irish (or British) crime drama.

Killer: I've been watching you
with interest.
Cop: Have you?

Killer: We're very alike, you and me.

Cop: Oh, I don't think so.
Killer: Both driven by will to power,
a desire to control
everything and everyone.
Obsessive, ruthless, living
and breathing moral relativism.

It's just you're bound
by conventional notions
of what's right and wrong
and I'm free.

Cop: How are you free?
You're a slave to your desires.
You have no control at all.
You're weak. Impotent.
You think you're some kind of artist. But you're not.
Killer: Art is a lie.
Art gives the chaos
of the world an order
that doesn't exist.
Cop: Is that really why you called me?
To expound some half-baked
philosophy. I'm disappointed.
