This magnificent 6-episode miniseries is full of beautiful period costumes, tense drama, exceptional acting, and interesting historical facts. The actors speak in German, French or Dutch (with English subtitles) which is the language the historical figures they represent would have spoken at the time.

Fortunately, I was fairly ignorant about European history around 1477 so I didn't know what was going to happen. I recommend that you don't google Maximillian or Marie de Bourgogne so that you don't know the outcome. It did take about one or two episodes for me to understand the political situation at the time, but that didn't detract from the underlying story.

This Medieval melodrama is one of the best miniseries I've seen and I don't understand why it's not more widely known. Note that there are some scenes of torture, nudity, and violence so perhaps appropriate for mature viewers only.

Highly recommended!
