A dud is born.
Rambling dialogue. Reality-show style mumbling.
Zero dramatic tension. Zero chemistry between the lovebirds apart from their draping over each other like wet rags.
Forgettable songs, except for the beautiful "Shallows" and not counting "Pretty Woman"
What's there to like ?

This is my favourite version of all the "A Star is Born" films. I loved it because of the quality of singing and music and acting. Both leads were unrecognizable to me as the famous people they are in real life. I never once thought of Bradley Cooper or Lady Gaga while watching their believable performances. A world is created that is simply delicious to experience even knowing the tragedy beforehand. Too bad this movie didn't win more Oscars than Best Original Song for the beautiful song "Shallows".
TIP: Watch with subtitles (like many modern movies it's necessary to catch all the dialogue).

After her stunning performance at the Inauguration, must watch Gaga again!

If you like musicals I recommend Wild Rose, if you like country music. It is a story of a poor Glaswegan girl who dreams of making it big as a country singer in Nashville!

A bad remake of a bad original movie. Kind of like double bad.

After watching the movie, my conclusion is that Bradley Cooper is a decent actor, but not such a gifted singer, and Lady Gaga is a good singer but .... not a brilliant actress. Overall, I was disappointed by the film.

Love for music, famous country music singer connects and sponsors a waiter and singer songwriter of a drag bar to the music world. A drama among music, fame and Love. Very emotional and inspiring movie. It is the third remake of the original 1937 film. Predictable end.

Always tricky to make a "remake" because comparisons with the original, or originals, in this case, always happen. I suppose if I didn't already know what was going to happen maybe I could have liked it more...maybe...but it isn't an original story so I just don't know. As it was, fairly slow and uninteresting, Lady GaGa wasn't bad, but she wasn't great either, though one interesting thing about her casting is that her appearance is reminiscent of a young Barbra Streisand which of course evokes Bab's own remake of the movie with Kris Kristofferson , which causes that comparison thing again. That movie was better but at least in the vocal dept. GaGa acquits herself well, her voice having Streisand like power and quality.
Bradley Cooper was OK as an alcoholic musician whose star was fading but I didn't find the chemistry between the two to be believable. If you want chemistry between two leads you need something more than a semi sauced Cooper mumbling and fumbling around while Lady GaGa unaccountably loves him "no matter what", even after he insults her in an unforgivable way. How about addressing the tension over her rising star and his falling one? Shouldn't that be more than just skimped over? Not surprisingly the best moments are musical, Lady GaGa's moments anyways, pretty obvious Cooper is no singer, especially her performance of the Edith Piaf classic La Vien En Rose & the achingly sad powerhouse ballad "I'll Never Love Again", a song that deserves to be a hit. GaGa's performances make it worth watching but then again you could watch them all on YouTube and skip the movie.

A Star is Born was an excellent remake of the classic film and overall delivers a tragically beautiful love story, both in the relationship sense and those same characters with music. The soundtrack is one of the best I’ve heard and every song fits perfectly into the storyline, helping to further along the well-written character development. The emotional twist ending was portrayed spectacularly by Bradley Cooper who easily captures the heart of the audience from ten minutes in. Lady Gaga makes her acting debut and hits it out of the park, the story relating very closely to her own rise as an artist. The usual tropes, the usual tripe. Unremarkable songs, a dull script, chemistry-free mannequins stumbling around (Gaga is the only somewhat high flyer). And relentlessly the cameras are too close to the subjects! Like watching through a mail slot in a door.
