One plucky female pharmacist + one high-society naval officer = romance--and danger. For Lillian Avery, America's entry into World War II means a chance to prove herself as a pharmacist in Boston. The challenges of her new job energize her. But society boy Ensign Archer Vandenberg's attentions only annoy--even if he is her brother's best friend. During the darkest days of the war, Arch's destroyer hunts German U-boats in vain as the submarines sink dozens of merchant ships along the East Coast. Still shaken by battles at sea, Arch notices his men also struggle with their nerves--and with drowsiness. Could there be a link to the large prescriptions for sedatives Lillian has filled? The two work together to answer that question, but can Arch ever earn Lillian's trust and affection? Sarah Sundin brings World War II to life, offering readers an intense experience they won't soon forget.

It took me a bit longer than "Through Waters Deep" to connect to the characters in Sundin's second Waves of Freedom novel. However, once I did get to know Lillian and Arch (who I already liked), I absolutely loved reading their story. Their growth and challenges were completely different than Jim and Mary's experiences. So many authors have similar situations and problems for every book they do, but Sundin makes each book unique. Lillian and Arch have great personalities. They annoy me, they inspire me, and ultimately-they endear me to themselves. I absolutely loved this book. The romance, the mystery, the setting, the historical surroundings and events portrayed with accuracy and heart, the realistic portrayal of faith... I LOVE her novels, and can't wait to pick up the next! (Thank goodness I started reading this series when the third/last one is already out!!)

Sundin delivers another thrilling mystery with enough twists to leave the reader in suspense and characters displaying grit and courage, but are still flawed and, occasionally, prejudiced against one another. Sundin draws on her professional background in pharmacy to create an engaging historical romance story with enough technical details to sound authentic, and she includes some historical figures in the drama. This title also includes a teaser for book three, which centers around Lillian’s older brother, Lieutenant Daniel Avery, and which will conclude the series focusing on the Avery family.

For the Christian fiction and World War II romance enthusiast, Sarah Sundin returns with the second installment in her waves of Freedom series.
As usual, Sarah is crafty at recreating the situations and realties during World War 2. In this story the reader learns how soldiers struggled with the treatment and acceptance of combat fatigue. Sarah also sheds light on the desperation and sophistication of drug rings. Of course the reader is not spared the harsh realities of war, and how it affected the confidence and future of its survivors.
Sarah Sundin books are always something to be savored, and she always creates believable characters with unique but relatable struggles.
Archer, Jim’s best friend is back from book one ; still handsome, still under a yoke of guilt, and even more insecure about his wealth.
The heroine Lillian, (Jim’s sister) is struggling to find acceptance after a broken relationship in her past.
They both will ultimately conquer the events and learn to mature together.
I did like Archer and Lillian’s story even though the events in the book were a little sad for me (but that's war stories).

Wonderful heartwarming WWII story filled with mystery drama and romance!!! Loved both Arch and Lillian.... Both had their issues but at the end they were able to come in terms with their problems. Also enjoyed to see Jim and Mary from book 1 as well as the coming characters to the next book!
