The daughter of a low-life lazy prostitute living close to Disney World is allowed to misbehave, steal, lie, and ignore rules. In the end, daughter is taken away from prostitute mother and the child runs into Disney World hand in hand with her best friend. Of course it takes almost two hours of boring dialogue for this to occur. Not recommended for any age.

Type of movie that reveals more about the viewer. Depending on the lens you view this movie by either this is a movie that will disgust you because kids are swearing in it and are surrounded by low lifes or this is a profound revealing social comment on life at the fringes of the middle class. This movie is at times funny and at times predictable, but jarring.

Gave up on this movie in the first 5 minutes. Who wants to see children shouting profanities from the start?

Well worth watching …
Gritty at times, but also carefree and comedic, this movie spotlights a very real problem that is not well-known or recognized in our society.
... but as one commenter said, “Watch it and make up your own mind.”
… and, as noted in another comment, to fully appreciate this movie it is critical to watch all the bonus materials in Special Features. If you are limited for time, at least watch the interviews with Sean Baker and Chris Bergoch (Cast & Crew Interviews).
I watched the bonus materials first (no spoilers) and as a result viewed the film in a different mindset than if I had not. Realistically portrayed, based on actual research, much of the movie is seen through a child’s eyes … some events so obvious to adults are unseen by a child and vice versa.
This film was well thought-out, as were its choice of actors. As Sean Baker said, the alchemy of “seasoned actors, first-timers and non-professionals” create a hybrid between narrative fiction film-making and documentary. It also gives the film a unique dynamic and authenticity – and supports local talent in the region.

*LOVED* this movie...riveting. And the ending...sigh. So many undercurrents and thought-provoking situations. Really good.

Dismal, dreary depiction of all the stereotypes about poverty-stricken single mothers and their fatherless children. The main mother was particularly unlikable.

This film is what rich people think about poor people. The story tries to make itself into a doc but it is very far from the truth. I was extremely disappointed

A painstakingly honest story of wild child Moonee and her teenage mother Halley, who live in the Magic Castle Inn, close to Walt Disney World. Moonee's penchant for getting into trouble, and Halley's instability as a mother lead to significant consequences at the end of the film (which the director leads for open interpretation by the viewer). Thoroughly well acted and boldly delving into gritty issues, there is also a significant amount of adult language in the film.

Forget the low reviews. Watch it and make up your own mind. It too complicated to explain. Great perfomances all around. Bria Viniate played the part of Halley the little girl moonee's mother. She is an untrained actress that is destined to become a big star. Natural talent never acted before and she nailed her part. I look forward to seeing Brai Viniate again, she's a wildcat. Willem Defore gives one of, if not his best performance.

Engrossing film set in a low budget Florida motel. Slice of life storyline about young kids and their families at the motel.
