Soldiers stop at a New Mexico outpost in order to deliver equipment to a group of atomic scientists. When they arrive at the isolated research camp, however, they find it mysteriously deserted. After spotting a distress signal in a distant mountain range, the team decides to embark on a search and rescue mission with the hope of locating the missing scientists. Little do they know that these are the very hills that the ill-fated Carter family once visited and that a tribe of cannibalistic mutants lies in wait. This time, there is an even larger force of evil at work. The family patriarch, Papa Hades, plans to keep the women as breeders in order to ensure the survival of the mutant clan. Thus, the inexperienced group of soldiers must learn to band together against a foe that is intent on their very destruction.

Action/horror packed intro of its 1977 (original) and 2006 (remake) prequel. In the first dozen minutes: "Two years ago, an American family crossing the desert took a wrong turn and drove deep into a military area known only as Sector 16. By dawn the next day, half the family had been slaughtered." The rest of the film shows the horror awaiting a group of young National Guardsmen somewhere: U.S. Army Training and Testing Facility Yuma Flats, New Mexico.

Some good quotes in IMDb as expected, thanks to contributors:

A few more here:

Dr. Wilson, have you seen Foster?
-Calibrating the infrared sensor up top the mountain.
Dumb sons of bitches.
- Sorry, Colonel Redding.
Guys aren't supposed to be here without a goddamn escort!
God knows where he's taking us.
-To be honest with you... I'm not sure God knows anything about this place.
We're gonna make it out of here, okay? You think?
-Have to. I'm the only real family Clyde's got. Give anything just to smell his hair again.
You never talk about him.
-Work's work. Family is- I don't know- sacred. I always tried keeping the two separate. I guess that's all bullshit now.
This isn't supposed to happen on an army base, man. In the middle of a U.S. military facility.
- The size of Rhode Island. Look, if some asshole wants to go nuts, this is a damn good place to do it.
