I too, loved this book. Think GOT, mixed with Quentin Tarntino. Tons of action, and smart humour. This will be an author I follow.

I loved this book sooo much! The character Jorg is fascinating! He is truly an evil character yet he can still manage to be so well-loved by the reader. However, this is also why this book isn't for everyone; for some, there is just too much violence, rape and general evilness from the 'protagonist' but that's also why some people love it. One of the reasons I loved this book so much is because I felt the control that Jorg had, over the whole book no matter how despairing the events might seem; he always seemed to have the confidence that he will come out on top and I believed in him the whole way through. There are books that are defined by its well developed settings and overall plot, and there are books defined by its engaging characters. Mark Lawrance's Prince of Thorns is definitely both; I am in love with its characters and the Prince of Thorns world!

I really loved Mark Lawrence's writing style and I think the idea was really fascinating: but it was difficult to get through not only does the journey go kind of nowhere in the middle of the book, but the main character is a really crappy guy and insanely hard to like, even if there's a reason to his madness.

Quite possibly the beginning to my new favorite series. The main character Prince Honorous Jorg Ancrath is a sadistic narrative voice fully capable of walking the hard line separating evil from whatever's left in this harsh world. Oh, and he most definitely treads (skips, frolics, jollies) on the path of evil. What's left is a diverse cast of ne'er do wells who don't ever do well - and honor and virtue are rewarded with a momentary feelings of loss as Jorg treads the path of losing what's left of his innocence as the world around him lets him know that he is just a boy playing in a man's world. This is Dark Fantasy at the top of its game - the violence may seem gratuitous at first but you really need it to pave the way for King of Thorns - a book that rewards Jorgy boy with regret, anguish, and the false hope that he could be a better man.

Be forewarned: it's super rapey, in the first 10 pages. The hero Jorg both endorses and partakes (although not graphically). Not the book for me. I'm not sure it was necessary, and I am sure it wasn't handled with care.

Nope. Nope. Nope. Definitely NOT for me.

This fast-paced novel features a ruthless hero who is also the darkest of villains. Young crown prince Jorg cares little for anyone else and delights in the horrors of his blood-soaked quest for revenge. Mark Lawrence's writing is unusually sharp for the fantasy genre.

A definite must-read! I absolutely loved this book and it's sequels! This is a very well written and extremely exciting beginning to a great trilogy. It is a bloody, violent, and fast-paced book, and anyone who loves action, dark fantasy, violence or great anti-heroes should definitely give this a read.

An anti-hero at his finest! A well written take on fantasy stories, twisting some of the fantasy conventions around to make a good read. Although personally I really find the convention of a fantasy world with magic creatures arising after nuclear war a silly explanation for the rise of magic.Terry Brooks has done this as well.

A tale of vengeance written in its finest form. A book worth reading! I admire how, just by reading the first chapter, you have a clear idea of how the story will progress, exposing the flesh and bone (literally)! You will not like the protagonist (or the very least be unsettled); he's no hero, he's no coward, he is but a calculating and cunning young man determined to get what he wants. If there is a gain from your sacrifice he will use you. If you just so much annoy him, he will cut you down where you stand. Highly recommended if you want a gruesome tale full of blood lust and determination.
