This was an apocalyptic novel with an interesting twist--the characters could only go out into the world with blindfolds on because the creature that caused the destruction of the world and its inhabitants did so simply by being seen. Setting your eyes on the creature will drive you to madness and self-destruction. So, the premise was pretty interesting and put a new twist on a very common theme in popular fiction as of late. The book is told in chapters that rotate between "present day" and flashbacks. I generally enjoyed the flashbacks more, though the present day chapters were quite intense. I found the scenes where the characters couldn't see anything to be quite frustrating, but I guess that's the point. Imagine living in a world where the only way to stay alive was not to look. So, would I recommend it? I think so. The story flows quickly and the characters were interesting. I just wish we could have had an idea of what was on the other side of their blindfolds!
