My first initial thoughts when I checked this book out at the library were as follows: LIZ SHERMAN. TEEN LIZ SHERMAN.YES. And Ava really did kind of remind me of Liz Sherman, and not just because of her pyrokinetic abilities-her fierce loyalty to her friends, her aloof and sometimes stubborn attitude, and her general...well...awesomeness. But my love for “Firebug” didn’t end there. The plot and writing was super clever, funny, and there was a new twist or snappy joke waiting around every corner. (Also, let’s take a moment to appreciate the chapter titles. My personal favorite was “Ain’t no party like a Coterie party, because a Coterie party’s got a body count”.) I think I’m pretty much attached to all of the main characters now. Lock and Ezra were a perfect match for Ava’s spitfire (no pun intended) and snarky personality, as was Cade. I kind of imagined Cade looking like Paul Bettany, and the fact that I saw “Solo: A Star Wars Story” didn’t really help that visualization. But it was a great visualization. So, in short, FIREBUG ROCKS IN EVERY POSSIBLE WAY! I can’t quite put my finger on why I didn’t rate it five stars, but believe me, I came pretty close to doing so. I’ve already got book 2 on hold at the library, and I’m just itching to read it.
