Try to be less partial (towards Beryl) as not to give 5 star. The book make "Out of Africa" lackluster. With my immediate flush faded and moving on to read other genre, the analytical part of me kicked in. Brutality of horse racing repulsed me, the feeling is still lingering, though taken over by my admiration for the trainer during reading. The author's well-versed showcase of Africa, the beautiful, failed to dig deeper into the true intention of Euro colonialist on the vast playground. I've become especially less sympathetic toward wild hunter (a.k.a. women slayer) Denys. Beryl, as a pioneering feminism icon, is worshipable - to many/certain people, her self righteous actions as the glorified focal point made the book a superficial crowd–pleaser.
