This 6-episode BBC TV miniseries is essentially the video version of the first 6 episodes of the radio drama that started it all. The cast is largely the same, and the music and sound effects are nearly identical. If you can look past the early-80s, BBC-budget TV special effects, this is as close to Adams' vision as has ever been produced. For fans of the radio series, one significant difference between the two versions is that the radio series has a scene involving the rapidly-evolving Haggunenons, whilst the TV version substitutes a scene using the mega-rock band Disaster Area. The reason is that the Haggunenon section was written by Adams' friend John Lloyd, during a period when Adams was overwhelmed by script editor duties to Doctor Who; the Disaster Area replacement was later written by Adams for a stage adaptation, and then incorporated into the novel and TV versions.
