Born into poverty in the town of Newport News, Virginia (1917) - Ella Fitzgerald (IMO) ranks right up there as being one of the greatest, female, jazz vocalists of all time. A multiple music-award winner - Ella's career as a singer began in 1935 when she was just 17. This top-notch CD contains 16 tracks in all which were recorded by Ella (along with accompanying musicians) in the years from 1938-1963. Many of these tunes were penned by some of the most notable songwriters of the day, such as - Cole Porter, Duke Ellington, and George & Ira Gershwin. Two of my favourite tracks are - "Mack The Knife" and "A-Tisket, A-Tasket" (*Be sure to watch music-video*). *Note* - In 1996 - Ella Fitzgerald (79 at the time) died due to extremely poor health.
